Tribe Basketball Finishes Season Strong

The Bastrop Tribe Warriors finished the boys and girls basketball seasons on a grand note with success in the TAIAO tournament.  The Varsity girls suffered an early loss only to rebound with three consecutive wins to capture third place in the tournament.  The ladies peeked at the best time stringing together their longest win streak of the season.

The Junior High Girls team also won third place in the TAIAO tournament.  They had entered the tournament in first place after a wonderful season being led by first year coach Dan Heilig. The girls lost a nail bitter in the opening game but managed to regroup and secure the third place finish.

The Varsity Boys also entered the tournament ranked first and found themselves in the Championship game against Sci-Tech Prep.  The team found itself in foul trouble early with more than 10 penalties called in the first quarter which led to the bench having to step up to keep the team in the game.  Down double digits at half time, the men clawed their way back into the game and tied the score with two minutes remaining.  In the end, the Warriors were not able to pull out the win but showed they will be a force for years to come with many players coming back for two more seasons.

Congratulations are also in order to six Tribe players who received All Tournament honors.  They include:

  • Mitchell James - Varsity Boys
  • Cole James - Varsity Boys
  • Spencer James - Varsity Boys
  • Taylor Merritt - Varsity Girls
  • Savannah Golemon - JH Girls
  • Lake Mills - JH Boys
